Venetian blinds can be used in many situations and are durable. They are a popular choice for window coverings in the home and office. Even the most durable Venetian blinds are susceptible to damage. Slats and cords can break. You can fix most of these issues in a matter of minutes. There are often Venetian blind repair kits with all the necessary materials. Let’s have a closer look.
Replacing Venetian Blind Cords
Before replacing the cord, inspect the blinds to make sure they are in good condition. You should replace frayed or broken cords, but it is worth inspecting an intact cord to see how it works. The strings are attached to the bottom of the cord, usually at the plastic or tassel end. They then rise through the holes in the slats and through a gravity catch. A set of strings shaped somewhat as ladders can also be used to rotate the slats. You can take photos of the cord system with your digital camera or phone if you have trouble remembering it.
Take your blinds out of the window. Make sure your replacement string is at the right length. The string access point is located at the top and bottom. The majority of access points can be identified at the top of the blinds. At the bottom, you will usually find a cap or slide that can easily be removed to reach the string.
The cord should be disconnected at one end. Only one string can be replaced at a given time. The string should be threaded through the blinds’ base and up through the holes in the blind slats. Follow the same route as the original string. The path will take you from the top to the bottom of the blinds. Make sure to attach the cord to the bottom rail. Make sure to tie a tight knot. The blinds come with two holes for string attachment.
Last, remove the caps and rails you removed to reach the bottom of your string. Make sure your blinds are hung and that the cord is working properly.
Slats need to be taken care of
You should care for the blind slats by cleaning them often. However, it is possible to replace slats from time to time.
You will first need to order replacement slats from the manufacturer. You can also take the broken slat into a hardware store to find a match in their blind section. You’ll find small buttons on the bottom rail of your blinds that you can easily remove with a flat-head drill. To remove the bottom rail, and any subsequent slats, untie the knot strings. Pull the cord up to the point where the broken slat(s) are. Next, place the new slats in their correct positions and direction. Next, remove the knotted cord from the bottom rail and replace it. Once you have checked that the bottom rail is straight, insert the buttons.
