You don’t need a perfect living space with the correct dimensions. However, it is possible to be creative in your decor and design. Your choice of furniture can have a significant impact on how the room feels. With a little effort, even the most awkward spaces can feel more welcoming and comfortable.
L-Shapes
Because of their dimensions, L-shaped rooms pose challenges. It’s common for one or both areas to be cramped. However, it’s not ideal to have a large sitting area that covers the entire room. You can make smaller groups for different purposes of the space. You can use one side of L to accommodate dining with a table or chairs. This area can be delineated with a large floor rug. You can create a sitting space with a loveseat, a sofa, and chairs at the other end. You can use potted trees or a fabric screen to separate the two areas.
Two entrances for small dimensions
Doors in small spaces can present unique challenges. Traffic flow must be maintained between the wickets. A conversation area should be created in the corner without creating a doorway. This corner is the best place to put a sofa and loveseat. For a second seating area, place a set of two chairs in the corner. The traffic route between the two groups should be designated. Add lighting evenly placed, including task and mood lighting to complete the space.
Vast Expanse
Some furniture may seem to be swallowed by their dimensions. To make the space feel cozier, you should pull furniture away from the walls. You can create a conversation area with large pieces such as a sofa, a love seat, and a coffee table. You can fill important space by arranging furniture in an L-shape. For added interest, place a sofa table under the couch. A corner can be transformed into a comfortable place for family members to gather and play board games or cards.
Strange and Awkward Dimensions
There are some rooms that have unusual spaces, making furniture arrangement difficult. You will need to think creatively about where your furniture should go when you have bay windows, built-in bookshelves, or odd corners. You don’t have to fit items around strange dimensions. Instead, move the pieces towards the center. If you have small spaces around the perimeter, choose smaller pieces like a tall bookcase or a narrow cabinet. You can fill in the corners with a potted plant or group of potted plants placed on an occasional table.
Even though it can be difficult to arrange furniture, it is possible with some imagination and a little creativity to make your living room more exciting and inviting. To avoid a room becoming boring, keep your furniture arrangements fresh.
