There are many options for interior design and home decor. There are two types of interior design: the pure and the mix-n-match. The industrial look and rustic chic are two of the most popular styles. These styles are often mistakenly equated as one. Let me tell you why they’re not the same. Let’s start with a few questions.
When I say rustic chic, what do you picture? Are you thinking of rustic chic in a farmhouse or wooden cabin with exposed beams and wood tables? Do you think quilts made from repossessed wood and galvanized steel? These descriptions of rustic chic are accurate.
What do you think about when I say “industrial design style”? Are you thinking of pipes, hardwoods and other metals or do you see them as pipes? Perhaps dark, neutral colors, antique typewriters and wood-burning stoves. They have an idea for industrial design if so.
While both the rustic chic and industrial designs share some commonalities, they also have distinct differences. Let’s take a look at each one separately to see the differences.
Rustic Chic
Rustic chic is lighter and more feminine. It focuses on light stains or natural wood colors. Light colored paints and distressed woodens are favorites. Mismatched hardware, chicken wire and galvanized (rusted), metal would be decor items. I think rustic chic best when I picture a small farm house on the prairie, with its simple colors but used items.
Industrial
Industrial design is darker and masculine. It uses dark neutral colors and dark woodens. There are many brushed and polished metals in this design. Exposed ducts and pipes are common features. You can decorate with old metal objects, wooden shelves and other items that are reminiscent of America’s industrial past. This design is easily remembered by thinking of a warehouse, commercial kitchen transformed into a home or apartment.
Both design styles share many similarities, such as their use of woods or metals. However, the colors and finishes of these woods and metals can be very different. Mixing and matching these styles can create rustic industrial-style homes. These styles complement each other well, making them a comfortable and practical home. For more information on how these houses work together, you can see many beautiful pictures of industrial rustic houses online.
No matter how you choose to style your home, or if you mix them up for a wider range of possibilities, your house should reflect who you are. Your home is where you can be yourself! Your home is your window to your soul. You can show off your industrial or rustic home with style. Enjoy decorating your home using your new knowledge.
