Heimtextil 2014: Progress and Revive

Nearly 67,000 people from 133 nations travelled to Frankfurt to experience the world’s largest international trade exhibition for contract and home textiles called Heimtextil. 271 exhibitors from 61 nations, Australia included, showed items for upholstery, windows flooring, walls, floors and sun protection to fabrics for bed, bathroom and tables in 19 spaces in Heimtextil at Frankfurt am Main from the 8-11 January 2014. More than 200 studios displayed their work under the roof of ‘Design Live’ which was once more the biggest event in the world in the field of textiles. The other focus of the area was the ‘Digital Print’ product category, in which the space for exhibitions and the quantity of exhibitors for the growing market for digital printing grew substantially.

Heimtextil Trend Table

Every year every year the Heimtextil Trend Table, which comprises six international organizations, offers the first glimpse into new fields of design in the future. It is the Heimtextil Trends have been the worldwide symbol of the trade fair for more than 25 years. In 2014/15, the six design studios across the globe were involved in the most significant trends. This year one London design studio took on the entire responsibility for the design. In the context of the presentation on trends in August of last year, they unveiled the brand-new Heimtextil Trend Book, a forecast of the interior design of the future. The presentation was held approximately four months before the beginning of the fair, the presentation marks the beginning of the new season for furnishing.

One of the main highlight of this fair are The Trend Show being a great source of inspiration due to various interactive elements. The spectacular show this year allowed guests to explore four different trends worlds that were based on two major trends: Progress! and Revive!

Progress! Revive!

The forecast for this year’s trends is divided into two main categories: Progress! and Revive! Each category is divided by two topics: Generate Collision! as well as Engineer Nature! and Exalt the Purity! and Revitalize Craft!, respectively. These four themes outline the in-depth exploration of the development and renewal of interior design using textiles.

“In short the future of design can be broken down into two competing powerful, ingenuous powers. One is the need to be forward-looking and to spread technology-driven advancements in order to thrive in this era of rapid-paced life while another is the significance to look backwards and the rebirth of old practices in our search for authenticity,” explained the responsible design studio.

PROGRESS!

A look into the future in which technology and science are the primary drivers of the design and interior industry.

Generate Collision. Designers are constantly testing new technology and materials that allow individual products. Combining hand-made and computer-generated design makes customized products feasible for large-scale production.

Colour palette: extremely saturated colours like purple, pink blue, orange green, yellow

Engineer Nature. Science is becoming the main driver of design innovation, which is bringing about the combination of design and science. Modern textile technology combines bio- and weaving techniques that are based on nature’s patterns in the fabric. Designers “technologize” nature by creating their own materials and re-creating the processes of nature.

Color palette: Greens with all of their variations in tonal

REVIVE!

Retrospectively looking backwards, honoring the past, and discovering traditional values by taking lessons from the past. The objective is to gain meaningful and meaningful experiences.

Exalt Purity. In response to mass production, interest in items that speak to personal stories and personality has risen by a significant amount. This style is inspired by natural materials and values their imperfections. It’s a reaction to an over-stylised and artificial world that allows people to unwind, to enjoy the benefits of a digital detox.

Color palette: soft neutrals paired with blues from the petrol

Rejuvenate Craft. This fashion reflects the revival of traditional techniques for crafting: crochet and fringing, assemblage and hand-woven. These objects are important and have a long history. are made using the latest application of traditional techniques for crafting. The result is a variety of patterns.

Color palette: warm and rich shades, such as burnt orange, contrasted with the freshness of the blue of duckegg and purple.

This is the Trend Book Progress! Revive! is a concise summary of these trends, and offers an in-depth analysis of the latest advancements in the field of textiles for the home. In addition this Trend Book also includes current cutting-edge projects in the architecture, interior design fashion, lifestyle, art and design industries and also from the sciences and technology.
