Are you ready to upgrade the style of your home?
If you’re embarking on the design process, there’s much more to consider other than selecting the appropriate paint colour.
Alongside being able to discern patterns, colour and size, there are a few fundamentals of design to remember.
As an artist, I’ve observed homeowners make some serious errors, and here are seven design mistakes you should beware of when decorating a room:
1. Do not forget comfort
when choosing furniture for your room, do not forget that it must be a place in which you’ll live as well. Durability and comfort are the most important factors when it comes to choosing the right piece. If it’s a space that has kids as well as dogs and a large amount of traffic, you should choose the fabric that is easily cleaned. You can try sitting on the piece at the shop. The best bit is one that is not just beautiful but also performs well!
2. Don’t try a paint colour out first
Nothing is better than having to spend hours painting an area only to discover that it’s not the hue you expected. The lighting in stores isn’t the best way to judge what a shade is like. Instead, purchase 3 or 4 paint samples that you like. You can paint a small square of the wall in your home. With a more extensive selection of paints that are illuminated by the lights of your home, it will be much easier to choose the colour you are most fond of.
3. Hanging art Pieces without a plan
If you’re creating an art installation, put it down on the floor to determine how it all fits together prior to hanging it. Don’t hang artwork that is too high. It is a good idea to follow the rules of thirds. The art should be hung about 1/3 the length of the wall. Be aware of the space in which people are usually sitting or standing so that you should turn it in the position where at which it’s likely to be seen most often.
4. Fuzzy contoured Toilet Rugs
The contoured toilet rugs with lid covers that match may have been famous in the past, but they’re now seen as obsolete. Instead, pick an oval-shaped bath rug that can be placed before the toilet. When choosing a bath rug, be sure to choose one that is washable so it is able to be washed regularly.
5. Buy something Too Fashionable
While the latest trends may seem trendy, they could risk becoming out of fashion in the near future. Pick themes and styles you can live with for years to come.
6. Do not forget window treatments
when designing a room, make sure to include window treatments. They bring colour and style to any room. With the variety of techniques you can pick out (valances, drapes, blinds, curtains, and valances), you can add the perfect wow factor to your room.
7. A plain foyer
A entranceway is often the first feature you’ll are greeted with when someone walks into your home. It’s the reason it’s crucial to make the space feel warm and welcoming. Get this area started with a rug or carpet. Add furniture pieces like a table or a bench table. Add a splash of colour by adding an art piece or mirror, or even plants.
We hope these suggestions can help you avoid decorating challenges. We wish you inspiration for your next decorating project!
